"Where I am From"

I am from the television,

from the google and state of new york.

I am from the yellow, the tall,

the smell of smoke from the chimney.

I am from the apple tree,

the growing grass flowing with the wind.

I am from Christmas mornings and waking early,

from Tish and Barry and Smith.

I am from the shouting and sleeping soundly,

from "Do as I say, not as I do" and "Use inside voices."

I am from the absence of faith,

the will to learn,

the acceptance for the faith of others.

I'm from Albany and Germany,

from chicken and waffles.

From the death of my grandfather, with the same humor as I do,

and the eccentric behavior of my grandmother at parties,

I am from the mountains, the forest, Lake George, my backyard,

and my Home.
